One resting apple per level look, for the ColecoVision port. A resting apple is drawn as background tiles; when it wobbles or falls it becomes the one-colour red sprite, so a design close to that sprite hands over without a visible change. Each 8-pixel row of a tile can show 2 colours (TMS9918 Screen 2): rows that break it get a red mark and block saving. The apple's shape is now your Chomper red drawing, for every level look and for the sprite itself; the other saved designs were reshaped to it, keeping their dirt. My best guess for the rest keeps that apple whole and simplifies the dirt around it.
